Anime time: B gata H Kei | Yamada’s first time

AKA Ruki watched ecchi stuff.

b gata4

It’s 5:35 in the morning, which means I only have about 30 mins to write this before going to pile on that concealer and go to work. So I’m gonna keep this short.

I, Rukifer the Great, have watched an ecchi series. It’s true. Do you know what’s worse? I ACTUALLY ENJOYED IT.

B gata H Kei, also known as Yamada’s first time is the story of Yamada (d’uuh), a virgin who wants to have 100 fuck buddies. However, she finds herself clinging to one guy. The most average, clueless guy in the school. Or in the world, if you ask me.

The Good

No harem. Little to no romance. This is mostly a comedy show, if you just ignore the unnecessary panty shots. The premise itself promises a comedy, more than some hentai. So glad they didn’t go for Yamada’s first time with a tentacle creature.

It looks okay. Nothing out of the ordinary on the graphics, artstyle, but I’m not one of those people who complain about okay. I’m actually easy to please.b gata

It’s sort of educative. I like it when anime series do that. Giving that it’s a series about a girl trying to have sex, they weren’t fucktards so they didn’t forget about condoms, hygiene and all that stuff. I also liked how they portrayed the shyness and the nasty emotions everybody has when they have sex for the first time. ’cause showing your naked body really isn’t that easy, no matter how good you look.

The Bad

The jokes just get repetitive and it’s dragging the show down. Although it starts all funny and nice, it just gets old and boring to see almost the same thing every episode. (doe they actually make progress somehow)

b_gata_h_kei_best_moment_ever_by_bunnygirl347-d6r86rvIt could have been more realistic and still be funny. Yamada and Kosuda may be kind of dumb, but nature doesn’t work like that. You actually know what to do in certain circumstances because, guess what? You’re a human and you have a body and humans have been doing this for a veeeeery long time. No matter how hard it might be (hehe, sexual innuendo on point), there are some things that you naturally feel. Unlike those two idiots.

HERE COMES THE INCEST GIRL. It’s not literally incest but…there’s the girl who loves her brother with a passion. I’ll just stop here.

Characters

Yamada is one of the most idiotic teens I’ve seen. But she’s also kinda funny. I hated her attitude tho’. That’s not how you treat the guy you want to have sex with, Yamada. You can’t just date someone, kiss ’em, show them your feminine parts and then not talk to them in school. Bitch.

Kosuda is, by far, the stupidest character. Tie him to the bed and get naked and he still won’t know what’s happening. And let me tell you, this is not a good thing. It’s actually
b gata2annoying and frustrating. Man up, dude. Get a clue. She’s wearing no panties and no, she didn’t just forget to put them on. (Who the fuck does that? How do you forget to put on panties?)

The rest of the cast is not THAT important. They’re all support characters and do contribute to the show, but not in such a measure that they influence major changes.

I loved both Chika and Kazuki (her and his sister) simply because they are so calm regarding the whole situation. Mayu was sweet and all that, but the show would have been less frustrating without her. Kyouka and her brother could have done better. One, because I hated the whole incest thing; two, because…they were pretty much pointless.

AGAIN, NO PARENTS IN THE WHOLE WORLD.

General thoughts

Why did I enjoy this series? WELL, I DON’T KNOW. But I had a few giggles in the multitude of panties and boners. It’s easy to relax on this series as it doesn’t ask for much brain. Besides, watching clueless people trying to have sex can be pretty funny.

However, I do feel that the main characters don’t belong together. Kosuda would have beenb gata3 much better next to Mayu, the sweet childhood friend. They would have been graciously and purely in love ’till the end of time.

It still bothers me when I see 14 y/o characters having (or trying to have) sex. Where I come from, this is not an apropiate age. Might be the communism our parents grew up in, but we are still told to wait until we figure out (at least part of) what we want.

And last but not least, the ending was disappointing. Not gonna go too much on the subject, as I am kind of familiar with the term spoiler, but I didn’t enjoy it.

AAAND I’M GONNA BE LATE TO WORK.

So what’s you’re take on ecchi series? Did you watch Yamada’s first time?

I DON’T KNOW, DUDE. I’M JUST TRYING TO ASK SOME QUESTIONS TO ESTABLISH A CONVERSATION LIKE REAL BLOGGERS DO.

I haven’t watched this show, although I am no stranger to ecchi stuff. Some people automatically hate anything with fan service, but I don’t mind providing there is something more substantive mixed in with the eye candy (comedy, action, cool characters etc.)

I started this show but I never finished! I had basically the same reaction and while at first I got a few good laughs in I eventually got bored with it.

  4. I went from laughing my ass off to “did they really just do that?” spats. It ended with me not wanting more to happen with the relationship – I just wanted more. Check, I Needed more Yamada. This is the best sexual comedy anime I’ve seen, and I loved it so much by the end. And you seemed to enjoy yourself too (in more ways than one, perhaps?). Nice review!
